ABOUT FALYN

When Falyn was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at 14 years old, she was told this is the best disease you can be diagnosed with because you can do anything living with this disease. She accepted the fact that this was life, and dealt with it. There were struggles along the way, and definitely days where she wanted to give up. As she moved on to college, living in NYC, getting married and having children, she quickly realized that there were so many people she encountered who were really having a hard time with this disease.

Falyn’s pivotal moment in her own T1D journey was when she was pregnant with her first baby in 2009, and the medical professionals were telling her to take doses of insulin that she knew would put her at hypoglycemic levels.

In that moment, she realized that her success and health needed to be taken into her own hands. Diabetes is commonly viewed only as a set of numbers, and that it doesn’t take into account personal relationships with food, body, mental health, and each person’s unique needs, lifestyles, and patterns.

From there, Falyn went on to find empowerment in her life by creating more awareness of her mindset and behaviors and how they connected to diabetes. Once she brought all of these pieces together, everything in life shifted. Falyn ultimately combined her passion and education of Health & Wellness Leadership, with a focus on Diabetes Education as a Diabetes Paraprofessional with the ADECS to help other people with Diabetes create transformative outcomes for themselves. She has been able to see what’s missing in the traditional diabetes management model. And fill that gap.

Falyn lives in Jacksonville, FL where she runs Diabetes Lifestyle Academy, spends time with her husband Josh and their 4 kids and 2 dogs. She loves to run, do hot yoga and help her kids learn what it means to live an active lifestyle. She also is deeply involved with JDRF and helps other families get acclimated to the T1D Diagnosis.
